Here are some of my best tips for creating beautiful, timeless family photos.

From what to wear to how to prepare the kids, these suggestions will help make your photoshoot a fun and relaxed experience for everyone.

Keep it natural, comfortable, and timeless. Earthy or neutral tones like cream, beige, olive, denim, rust, tan, and soft blues work beautifully in outdoor, country-style settings.

Textures and layers make a big difference—linen, cotton, denim, knits, and flowy fabrics all look amazing on camera. A light jacket, vest, or scarf can add depth and interest without being distracting.

Coordinate, don’t match—choose 2–3 complementary tones and spread them across the family. This keeps your look cohesive without everyone wearing the same outfit.

Footwear is flexible! Boots, clean sneakers, or even barefoot (especially for the little ones) are all great options. Just skip flashy shoes or heels that sink into grass.

Add a personal touch—a wide-brimmed hat, suspenders, or a simple wrap for baby can give your photos extra charm.

Avoid:

  • Bold logos or large writing
  • Tiny stripes or busy patterns
  • All-black (they don’t photograph well)
  • Large checks or clashing prints

Style inspiration:

Mum in a flowy linen dress, Dad in a neutral tee or shirt with jeans, and kids in soft knits, overalls, or simple dresses—it’s a relaxed and classic look that never dates.

The goal is to look like you, but just a little extra polished—comfortable, natural, and perfect for golden light and country backdrops.
