Getting ready for your photo session should feel exciting, not stressful!

To help you feel relaxed and confident on the day, we’ve put together some simple tips that will make your Hunter Valley photography experience smooth, fun, and full of memories you’ll love.

Plan outfits in advance

  • Coordinate colours – Choose a cohesive colour palette (e.g., neutrals, pastels, or earth tones) rather than matching exactly.
  • Avoid loud patterns & logos – Solid colours or subtle patterns photograph better.
  • Dress for the season & location – Light fabrics for summer, layers for autumn, etc.
  • Comfort is key – Make sure everyone can move comfortably, especially kids.
  • Accessorise wisely – Hats, scarves, or jewellery can add personality.
  • Footwear - High heels can sink the ground, flats and boots are best.

Grooming

  • Haircuts – Schedule them a week before the shoot for a natural look.
  • Nails – Clean and trimmed (you will see them in photos).
  • Skincare  – Moisturise, avoid harsh facials and cheap fake tans.
  • Makeup – Keep it natural but slightly enhanced for photos. Less is more!
  • Sunburn - Avoid anyone in the group getting sunburnt a few days before the day.

Prepare Kids & Pets

  • Rest & snacks – A well-fed, rested child is a happy one.
  • Explain what to expect - Tell them it’ll be fun.
  • Bring rewards (if needed) – Small treats for cooperation goes a long way.   Avoid giving children sugary treats before we start, keep them as a reward for after we're done.
  • For pets - Bring treats, a leash (if outdoors), and a toy to grab their attention. (if planned).

Pack a survival kit

  • For kids: Snacks (sugarless), water, wipes, favourite small toys (to keep them happy).
  • Touch-up items: Hairbrush, lip balm, blotting papers, powder.
  • Extras: Backup outfits (in case of spills), socks/shoes, props (if planned).
